The Capiznon salute the Hiligaynon People. These are the indigenous inhabitants of the large coastal plain of East Panay island. Over the years, intermigrations and intramigrations have contributed to the diaspora of the Hiligaynon to different parts of the country. Now, the Hiligaynon people form the majority in Iloilo province, Capiz province, Negros Occidental province, Guimaras province, and Sultan Kudarat province. They are part of the wider Visayan ethnic group, who constitute the largest Filipino ethnic group. They speak Hiligaynon language. Throughout the Philippines, they speak Tagalog and English as second languages. Most Hiligaynons are Christians belonging to Roman Catholicism. The Capiznon are proud of their native people…The Hiligaynon People.

We are proud to present some arts of the Capiznon. The toltog palanog, a clay flute, is the earliest musical instrument in Panay. It has three holes at one end and two at the shdes. There are several kinds of tulali or bamboo flutes, including the pasyok, a child flute made of stiff rice straw; the dios sios, a set of reeds of different lengths, tied side to side; and the budiong, a shell, with the pointed tip cut off. The tan-ag, made of two pieces of light wood, is the earliest percussion instrument. A set of these is called the dalutang, the bunkaka or takup is a section of bamboo with a split end. It is held in the right hand and struct against a pole in the left hand. Different ways of striking cause variations in rhythm. The roots of Capiznon drama are, in ritual, such as the babaylan rites for appeasing spirits and curing the sick, which include mimetic elements and chant; and second, in the verbal games played at wakes. In the rituals, sacrifices are offered, prayers chanted, and symbolic dance motions made. Religious drama and dramatizations in Western Visayas include the forms found in other regions; the soledad on Easter morning, the taltal or passion play on Good Friday; the Easter procession of the resurrection, in which a boy and a girl dressed as angels recite poems to the Christ and the Virgin; the Constantino in May, dealing with the finding of the Holy Cross; the pastores or da-igon at Christmas time, in which songs are sung by the "shepherds" worshipping the infant Christ. I hoped that this blog will be an instrument so that the rest of the world will know Capiz and the Capiznon that we have rich in culture.

God says,”Take what you want and pay for it!” when I first heard this term proverb from Spain it frightened me. I used to dream of an Angel with a flaming sword. But as I thought more about it, I realized that the Angel held not a sword but a balance. In one side you put what you would like to be. Do you want to be famous? Very well, says the Angel, and then spend every waking hour in the pursuit of fame. It will show up in the other side of the balance in time spent and sacrifice made. Is it reaches you want? Think about money everyday, study it, give your life to it, and the balance will be weighed with gold-but at the cost of other things. Maybe you want to be wise. The angel will weigh out a high payment for that, too; it will include a good life, a pursuit of knowledge, and an uncompromising love of truth. Everything has it price. We are familiar with this idea in our daily lives. We go to the self-service stores, in our wire cart we put a can of tomatoes, a bit of cheese, bread, hamburger, and spaghetti. On the way out the clerk adds up our bill, puts our purchase in a paper bag, and we carry home our dinner after we paid for it. So with the balance of our lives: on one side, our heart’s desire; on the other side of the scales, the reckoning. When the scales are even, you may take out what you have bought. Sometimes the price seems high. But remember, you must pay for the character and quality of your goal as well as for the achievement of it. The law is simple and I is just; you may have what you want-but you must pay. Nothing is free.

In any competitive environment, losing is always a crushing experience. In the world of professional video game tournament where the worse injury you could possibly incur are sore carpal tunnels and eyestrain, no other blow could be more concrete than a virtual defeat. At the World Cyber Games last few years, the Philippine team went home wrist-injury free but empty handed. For sure, the boys have put up a good fight in Starcraft, Counterstrike, and Warcraft III despite being challenged by superior foes. For us, they were the best, and when they fought with the best, their best, unfortunately, wasn’t enough. Judging from the performance of the Philippine team last year in a video game competition that’s international scope, there’s a serious need for the country to use a common gaming terminology to strategize if we were to come anywhere close to impressive wins of Germany, Taipei and Korea. To those uninitiated with the complexities of cyber athletics, it should be easier for the Philippines to train world class cyber athletes than to develop a stable of real-world Olympians. Give them game-ready computers and consoles and they’re good to go. Of course, this is almost like saying that making the next five time champion Manny Pacquaio is as easy as handing out pairs of Everlasts to eager young whelps with an appetite for pugilism. Developing a world-class Pinoy cyber athlete takes more than that; perhaps it should be done in same way how sports heroes are made. Despite the prevalence of computers, the concept of a pro video gamer is relatively new, if not totally unheard of, to most Filipinos, especially the older generation who view gaming as merely a form of electronic entertainment. Much like real athletes in training, the best players in the world have been known to practice anywhere from eight to ten hours a day playing against other elite players on the other side of the globe. It’s also highly unlikely for anyone one to find someone like a professional video game coach. Most gamers have found that squaring off against the best online opponents and learning from them is still the best way to enhance one’s skills whether it’s a first-person shooter or a real-time strategy game. For the country to garner medals in international event such as the WCG, players definitely need a lot of support. Notable steps in the right direction include the Philippine government’s recognition of these cyber athletes as well as financial support from multinationals like Samsung. So when will we get to see the next Manny Pacquaio of video games? Realistically speaking, it should be in a few years time, although we all wish the next video game champs would arrive with an imperceptible lag and sooner than what all of us think. After all, they still have a lot of fighting to do.Ang Roxas City Fountain

Capiz is a province of the Philippines located in the Western Visayas region. Its capital is Roxas City and is located at the northeastern portion of Panay Island, bordering Aklan and Antique to the west, and Iloilo to the south. The Province of Capiz is known as the Seafood Capital of the Philippines. Capiznon are proud to present another place to hang-out by the Capiznon. The newly renovated Roxas City Fountain. The renovated fountain in the center of the Roxas City plaza was finally reopened. The Capiznon was there during that day when the City fountain was reopened. Roxas City fountain gives a city a new spot for people to hang-out especially at night for its new look. If you see the fountain in daylight you can’t appreciate its beauty, it’s just an ordinary fountain at all, but when the sunset starts it gives the public a new center of attraction because of the beautiful lights. It’s golden color that was brightened by the lights around it. It gives a wonderful view in the city plaza at night. A lot of people were visiting the fountain, taking some souvenir photos, some are dating, and there are some of those people throwing coins and make some wish. The Capiznon. The place was so romantic.

The Official Lyrics
O, Capiz duog nga hamili
Dunang manggad sang Dios pinili.
Kadagatan mo kag kabukiran.
Pagatatapon imong kabugana-an.
Capiz matahum nga ngalan.
Sa tagui-pusuon ikaw mapahamtang.
Dumulu-ong ka, o Capizeño man ang kagayun.
Sa gihapon, mahamutan.
Koro:
O, Capiz, Capiz
Bisan diin kami padulong
O, Capiz, Capiz
Imo ngalan pagadal-on
Capiz, probinsya nga pinasahi.
Bilidhon ang mga palanubli-on
Ipadayon, palig-unon, itib-ong Capiznon.
Tanan, magahugpong.
Koro
Imo ngalan pagadal-on

The Capiznon Blogger are proud to present some Literary Arts of Capiz. The patugmahanon (riddle) is a word game played by adults and children at social occasions, to while away the time, to create camaraderie among warring parties, or simple to entertain. It reveals the people’s values, institutions, traditions, customs, and humor which are sometimes risqué. The hurubaton is most revealing of the natural environment and material culture of the Capiznon. The strong odor of ginamos (fermented small fish) is used as analogy for one’s foul secrets, as in the proverb.
The most popular type of narrative poetry is the kumpusu/composo a ballad the topics of which range from historical events to love affairs of some people and social conditions. On the other hand, there are kumpusu that are fictional narratives with a didactic purpose. Prose narratives consist of tales, fables, and legends explaining the origin of place names, land features such as caves and forests, and other elements of nature such as root crops and animals. The Capiznon Blogger are proud of their literary arts that reflect the ingenuity of Capiznons.
